I've Ruined My Son!

For the life of me, I don't know why it is so hard for my son to sleep by himself. Wait a minute; I'm lying, I do know. From what I can recall ever since he was a baby, I would usually be the one that puts him to sleep. I know for a fact at least when we started putting him in his baby bed, you know the bed that looks good in pics but the child never actually sleeps in? Yeah that one. I would lay on the floor next to the bed and put my finger through the rails, so he could hold it while he was laying there. I would do that until he went to sleep. When he wakes up in the middle of the night, he would mostly call for me, or I would just get up anyway so his mother wouldn't have to.

He's used to me either telling him a story, reading a book or praying with him at night. We always have to pray, so he does not have bad dreams. I must admit, I do like the cuddle time, the laughs and the jokes, but I don't sleep well because I'm usually pushed into the side of the bed, or getting kicked most of the night. Sleep deprivation is real! I remembered a couple of weeks ago, I thought I escaped the routine. I fell asleep on the couch. He woke up in the middle of the night, and came to the couch and just said, "Come on dad, come get in the bed." 😐

It's become a habit that is hard to break, but pretty soon he and I won't have a choice because I need to take my sleep back. This waking up in pain from kicks in my side and being pressed against the side of the wall must stop. Every moment we have, I try to not take for granted. I know there will come a time that he won't want to spend time with me that much and what not. I'll give this week a test run on making him sleep alone though. Wish me luck...😫
